Iceland is divided by the Mid-Atlantic Rift; some parts of it, such as the Westfjords and Reyjavík, are on the North American tectonic plate, while others, such as Vatnajökull glacier and the East Fjords, are on the Eurasian plate.
Our visit to this wild island was by cruise ship so we didn't see much of the interior. Also, as it was the last week of June we didn't see a lot of ice. What we did see was the Mid-Atlantic Rift, spectacular waterfalls, rugged landscape, iconic Icelandic buildings, and the midnight sun.
